About Us

Prairie Fire Gymnastics and Athletic Center (PFG) is the area's premier gymnastics, tumbling, and youth fitness facility. PFG is family owned and operated and offers a full range of classes for area youth ages 18 months and up.

Prairie Fire recognizes the importance of youth fitness and the need for healthy life habits. With childhood obesity rates at an all time high, Prairie Fire is doing its part to aid children and families in developing a healthy lifestyle.

Prairie Fire Gymnastics offers a full range of programs like recreational and competitive gymnastics, tumbling, private lessons, cheerleading, youth strength training, summer day camps and Tae Kwon Do. PFG also holds special events throughout the year, such as monthly open gyms, seasonal fun days, National Gymnastics Day and more.

Prairie Fire strives to maintain lower student-teacher ratios, which enable more personalized attention for our students, allowing them a safer, more productive environment. PFG also prides itself in employing top notch instructors and coaches. Each goes through and extensive back ground check and brings prior experience to the table and a great love for children. The staff at Prairie Fire is here to help and answer any questions you may have.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide quality gymnastics and fitness instruction for kids in the area. We are a very sports-minded community and this fits nicely with the variety of activities offered,” says Marcy. “Childhood obesity rates are increasing at an alarming rate. And kids need a physical activity to do regularly to keep their bodies and minds healthy and strong. We are proud to be able to help parents provide healthy activities for kids of all ages and abilities," said owner Marcy Van Wyk.

Prairie Fire Gymnastics is a member of USA Gymnastics and a certified Gold Medal Children’s Activity Center, part of the Character Counts! Organization. Kerry and Marcy, as well as their competitive coaches, are professional members of USA Gymnastics and are all safety certified.

History

PFG was opened January 16, 2006, by Kerry Moore and Marcy Van Wyk. However, the idea to open a gymnastics and youth fitness facility came several years before. Kerry and Marcy have four children, all very active and athletic. Marcy, a Grinnell native, wanted to have a quality gymnastics facility in Grinnell that had an option for competitive gymnastics. Kerry, a high school and college athlete and coach of several different youth teams, wanted to have a youth fitness facility available. Both knew that the sport of gymnastics would be very popular in the area and that gymnastics itself provides a great physical foundation for every other sport, including football, basketball, and soccer. It took a few years of planning and idea development before the doors officially opened.
